Bernard de Vienne
French composer born 2 July 1957.
Bernard de Vienne was born in 1957. He studied traverso flute with Renaud François and later with Alain Marion, Maxence Larrieu, and Jean-Pierre Rampal.
As a flautist, he has performed widely as a soloist, but also as a member of Ensemble Musique Vivante, a new music chamber ensemble conducted by Diego Masson which performs in France and abroad. In 1981, he obtained a Master’s in musicology under the supervision of Daniel Charles at Paris VIII University (Vincennes). He also studied composition with pianist and composer Carlos Roqué Alsina. In 1993, the first movement of his chamber symphony L’Envie de partir, premiered by Klangforum Wien, was awarded first prize at the International Composition Competition of the City of Trieste.
Having taught traverso flute, ensemble music, and introductory courses for children at various conservatories for more than a decade, he has also composed numerous study pieces for his students.
Since 1983, Bernard de Vienne is the director of the Trappes Music School, for which he also organises the concert season.
