Rogelio Sosa was born in Mexico in 1977. He started studying music at the Conservatory of the University of Guadalajara in 1994. From 1996 to 1998, he attended classes at the Laboratorio de Creación Musical at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) with Julio Estrada, going on to study musical semiology (obtaining a degree in this field in 1999) and composition with Ignacio Baca-Lobera from 1998 to 1999. He participated in June in Buffalo in 1997 and the Darmstadt Summer Courses in 1998. From 1999 to 2000, before undertaking the IRCAM Cursus (IRCAM’s composition and computer music course), he attended classes on computer music at the UPIC Workshop in Paris. He was awarded the National Endowment for Young Mexican Artists in 1996 and 2000, the Audience Choice Award in the SCRIME Competition in Bordeaux and the Nuevas Resonancias Prize in 2000, and a prize in the first category of the 28th Bourges Electro-acoustic Composition Competition in 2001. In September of the same year, the president of Mexico awarded him the National Youth Prize. In 2001, the piece he composed during the IRCAM Cursus was premiered.
