Upgrade motivation
The loudspeaker setup with three totems can very difficult to set up. We worked 3 days with Sina Fallazadeh to simplify the spatialisation setup.

Instructions

Loudspeaker Setup

You can choose between two versions of the loudspeaker setup for the diffusion of electroacoustic part of Metanoia.

In the first version you will need a totem (7 loudspeakers) and a ring of 6 loudspeakers.

In the second version, you will only need 8 loudspeakers.

1. Totem and 6ch ring loudspeakers

For this version, a totem need to be disposed on the backdrop. See picture below to see how to set up a totem.

DAC output for this version is :

  1. Ring Front Left
  2. Ring Front Right
  3. Ring Mid Right
  4. Ring Rear Right
  5. Ring Rear Left
  6. Ring Mid Left
  7. Totem highest speaker
  8. Totem 2nd speaker
  9. Totem 3rd speaker
  10. Totem 4th speaker
  11. Totem 5th speaker
  12. Totem 6th speaker
  13. Totem lowest speaker

Feel free to adjust speaker position according to your concert venue. Don't forget to adapt sources in consequence !

2. 8ch ring loudspeaker

For this version, there are 3 loudspeakers on stage and 5 loudspeakers on the public area.

DAC output for this version is :

  1. On stage - Forefront left speaker - Normal elevation
  2. On stage - Backdrop center speaker - Higher than the others (2.5meters)
  3. On stage - Forefront right speaker - Normal elevation
  4. On public area - Front left speaker - Normal elevation
  5. On public area - Front right speaker - Normal elevation
  6. On public area - Back right speaker - Normal elevation
  7. On public area - Back center speaker - Normal elevation
  8. On public area - Back left speaker - Normal elevation

Feel free to adjust speaker position according to your concert venue. Don't forget to adapt sources in consequence !

You can also add a 9th loudspeaker to make a 6 loudspeaker conventional configuration on the public area.

Software installation

  • Install the provided packages in Max by copying them in the right place
  • set the max search path to the following folders:
    * metanoia
    * Metanoia_Nouvelle_Fichier
  • set the Max settings as follow:
    * Sampling Rate : 48 kHz
    * IO Vector Size : 1024
    * Signal Vector Size : 64
    * overdrive off

Software Presentation

  • Open the metanoia max project with max 8
  • Open Metanoia-v2.maxpat and the spat patch according your choosed configuration

  • Go to the Antescofo window by using the leftmost menu

  • Select "Metanoia-all" score in the antescofo window menu
  • Press the computer keyboard right arrow to initialise everything
  • The piece is ready to start : the conductor can trigger the first electronic sound using his foot pedal.
