violin
This is a piece about political upheaval and revolution against tyrannical power. The title was inspired by the homonymous poem by Joan Brossa, as part of a series of pieces inspired by his works. The piece is build around gradually building up feedback sounds. A microphone picks up the sounds from the violin body, then these are electronically treated and played back to the same body of the violin using a transducer, or surface speaker. Thus, the feedback occurs through the body of the violin. Think of the monarch or dictator being that cancerous feedback building up, with his whole network and power expanding year after year, as well as their influence, feeding off from the individual, the violin. The suspensive dots of Brossa’s poem, like the grains of sound in the violin, are just the patient waiting for the real action to be taken, in a sudden outburst of justice. This piece is dedicated to the victims of the war in Ukraine.
