Audio Setup
documentation by Denis Lorrain
==================================================
This is a terse document concerning only the use of the Max/MSP patchers.
It is NOT SUFFICIENT for users not familiar with Max/MSP and computers.
It does NOT concern the general MIDI and audio setup.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
• MIDI input: master keyboard (88 keys, MIDI pitches n° 22 to 88 are used).
• NO audio input.
• 6 audio outputs: "dac~1 2 3 4 5 6".
• The following Max/MSP setting must be used (it is normally set when
initializing the main patcher):
- Max Scheduler in Audio Overdrive ON
-Sampling Rate 48 kHz
Set MAX file preferences to the Richiamo folder
•Launch the Richiamo2015+104.maxpat patch with MAX7
(3.1) Click the "[1] Open/Preload Sound Files..." button. Allow some time for
the 271 open & load operations...
(3.2) Click on the "[2] Reset & Switch DSP ON" button.
(3.3) MIDI input from the keyboard will trigger the patcher throughout the
piece.
(4) During rehearsals, it is possible to start at any given CUE NUMBER. Cue
numbers are the CIRCLED NUMBERS in the score, corresponding to actual
sound file names/numbers. N.B.: other numbers in square boxes in the score
are trigger numbers, which are NOT used to control the patcher. To start at
a given CUE NUMBER, see the "Follow from Cue n°..." area in the patcher:
(4.2.1) click on the "[a] Cue n°..." number box;
(4.2.2) type in the desired cue number, ending with ;
(4.2.3) don't forget to click the "[b] ... click!" button.
(4.3) The above (4.2) procedure MUST be used once when performing
<>, because this piece uses cue 200 twice: at the
end of Interlude II and at the beginning of Interlude III.
MIDI and Audio Tests
Use the Max standard AudioTester and MIDITester to check your configuration.
You can also test the sounds with the patcher "Keyboard-TEST" on the main patch.
For a more complete preliminary test, you can open the KbdSimul patch that contains a complete recording of the keyboard Midi sequence.
Amplification
To balance the electronic part, all the instruments should be slightly amplified.
DAC recording
For reference purpose, you can refer to the tape version of Richiamo
